Grange, Grange Basket, and Grange Twill enlist natural fibers and recycled content in three classic constructions. Banner Stripe is the newest upholstery in collaboration with fashion designer Paul Smith. Maharam leathers Browse, Pique, and Signet offer precise explorations of color, texture, and technique. Time Horizons, Brian Alfred’s addition to Maharam Digital Projects, distills an anonymous landscape to color and form.
Grange, Grange Basket, and Grange Twill exemplify the design studio’s commitment to reduced environmental impact. Recycled cotton offers a cool hand, while a cohesive palette utilizes previously dyed fibers to reduce water use.
Banner Stripe by Paul Smith continues a collaborative exploration of classic motifs through idiosyncratic applications of color, pattern, and scale.
The design began during development for Paul Smith shirting. Drawn to a color sample’s inadvertent stripe, Smith featured the concept in his Autumn/Winter ’24 menswear collection, later working with Maharam to develop a woven upholstery.
The upholstery features distinct bands of clear hues, unified in scale across a smooth surface. Each of the colorways contains twenty-two distinct tones arranged to dynamic effect.
Browse is a nubuck with a slight grain, a dappled, two-tone appearance, and an exceedingly soft hand.
Pique is a versatile leather with a supple hand that enlists sheer color to highlight each hide’s natural variation.
Signet is Maharam’s first patterned, embossed leather—a technique carefully chosen to offer a technical appearance and even texture.
Time Horizons is Brian Alfred’s fifth contribution to Maharam Digital Projects. Originating in found images, its dynamic forced perspective creates an otherworldly impression of distance alongside recognizable signs of human intervention and activity.
